Must See Internet TV

From Great City, a discussion of "shared space" and the dual purpose functions of streets as movement and social space/transactions, which could similarly be dichotomized as macro-connections (driving from point A to point B) and micro-connections (crossing the street):

I also really like and want to call attention to the charting of highway functions, purposes, and logic with that of the public realm:

HIGHWAY:
Regulated
Impersonal
Linear
Single Purpose
Consistent (ed. note: for rhetorical purposes one might say 'monotonous' or 'relentless')
Predictable
Systematic
State-controlled
Signs and markings (aka regulation)

PUBLIC REALM:
Culturally defined
Personal
Spatial (non-linear)
Multi-purpose (adaptable)
Constantly changing
Unpredictable (interesting)
Contextual (locally defined)
Cultural/Social rules (mores)
Eye Contact

One of these operates under the rules of complex, interdependent, and resilience of networks. The other doesn't.
