The police report said the woman was walking with a co-worker at about 5:50 a.m. in the 400 block of South Akard Street when a man approached her and said, "I'm going to shoot you." The man grabbed at the woman's purse, pushing her to the ground and then shot her in the head. He did not get her purse. This pisses me off not so much that it happened two blocks from where I rest my head, nor that crime is sometimes random and indiscriminate, but that so much of the southern portion of downtown COULD be (or at least feel like) a safer place to walk. Of course, it also reminds me of an old post about the mapped correlation between crime and freeways.
